@Cranktastic: Yeah, I've seen those tweets, but meh. Of course he has to say that. If he said 'no, there aren't,' can you imagine the uproar and backlash? People would be accusing him of homophobia and discrimination and hate and some would probably boycott his books/movies. Nowadays, everyone has to support the LGBT or risk losing their career! (I'm not joking. Look up the CEO of Firefox.)
@Greenieshank: I was saying that if Dashner had said 'no, there aren't any LGBT characters,' then all the social-justice warriors would have pitched a fit and boycotted everything. Obviously, he HAD to say there were LGBT characters. It would have been professional suicide to say anything else. (Alternately, I suppose he could have ignored the person's question, but still.)
On an important note, James Dashner is a Mormon (also known as Latter-Day Saint), and from what I've read, official Mormon doctrine states that homosexuality is wrong. I don't know how religious Dashner is personally (I mean, he watches Game of Thrones...), but it's worth mentioning.
Guys, the actors of Thomas (Dylan O'Brien) and Newt (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) were dared to kiss on camera but Dylan backed out at the last minute, that's why. I'm not sure if either of them are actually gay though...
