Grief Serum

The Grief Serum

The Grief Serum was the antidote that the Gladers gave to someone who was stung by one of the Grievers, allowing them to live but at the cost of agonising pain. It arrived in a syringe with their weekly supplies. After someone had taken the Grief Serum, they went through a process called the Changing. During the Changing, the patient goes through such extreme pain, as well as regaining some of the memories of their past life. A person who was stung by a Griever and did not receive the Grief Serum would die.

It was mentioned in The Maze Runner Files that the Griever's sting would give the Gladers a mutated version of the Flare that could be cured with the serum. The serum had cured multiple major characters like Thomas, Gally, and Alby.

In the Film, the Grief Serum was in the form of a blue liquid, contained within a metal tube with an injector tip. It was only sent down with Teresa which was the first time that the Gladers had even seen it. They were sceptical at first, but decided to try and use it on Alby. Contrary to their anxieties, it didn't make Alby any worse and it cured him.
